This is a Juvenile Grey Butcher Bird. I watch these birds in my own garden. They have a beautiful song and are very fast acrobatic flyers that are enjoyable to watch flying around the garden. The adult grey butcher birds are black, white and grey but here I have chosen to paint a young butcherbird which has beautiful patterned shades of brown and cream which I think is stunning against the natural wood.
Fitted with a hanger on the back, it’s ready to hang on your wall.
Approximately 20cm round (1.8cm thick)
About the wood: The wood is cut from young invasive pine species in Victoria to make way for Australian native trees. Before painting the butcher bird I have sealed the wood on all sides (including the edges) and then coated the acrylic painting with varnish to protect it.
